The Fuquay-Varina Elementary School project reimagines and expands an existing 70,000 SF WCPSS elementary school through a comprehensive renovation and a new 30,000 SF, 22-classroom addition. The design establishes a cohesive architectural identity between the existing and new construction, creating a modern, welcoming learning environment that responds to the evolving needs of students, teachers, and the surrounding community.

The renovation transforms the existing facility through updated interior environments, improved circulation and wayfinding, new ADA-compliant restrooms, and a new secure entry vestibule. Material selections, natural light, and thoughtfully designed learning spaces contribute to a bright, engaging environment while reinforcing a sense of connection, safety, and belonging throughout the school.

Originally planned as a complex phased-permitting and two-bid process, the design and construction team worked collaboratively to consolidate the work into a single-phase construction project. This approach improved efficiency, streamlined construction, and minimized disruption to ongoing school operations.

Site improvements were also a significant component of the project, including an enhanced carpool loop designed to reduce vehicle stacking along Johnson Pond Road, new playgrounds, and improved site circulation. These interventions create a more organized and intuitive campus while improving the daily arrival, departure, and outdoor experiences for students and staff.
