Parker’s Ridge is currently in the first phase of construction in what is envisioned to be a 138-acre county park in Moncure, North Carolina. The park is named for the Parker family, who owned and operated a tobacco farm for over 70 years. Chatham County acquired the land in 2019 with the condition that it be conserved as green public space for the community.

The conservation efforts align with Chatham County’s goals to provide open green space and recreational programming for the growing population and development in the area. The first phase includes a trail system, a BMX pump track, an inclusive playground, and a picnic shelter with bathroom amenities overlooking a pond.

The bathroom shelter is made up of two volumes, separated to create a shaded picnic area, calling back to dogtrot houses in the south. The covered area provides a gathering space and serves as a passage to the pond overlook.
